Title

「The Power of Words and the Power of Covey」

Speaker

Yoko Fujioka (Author)

Introduction of Lecture

I was 26 years old when I wanted to be a writer. And I was 38 when I was able to made my debut as a writer. It took me 12 years to realize my dream. Why did I not give up on my dream during that time? That is because I have been supported by the many words I have received from the people I have met during that time. Words have the power to change someone's life. However, I think that the power to convey those words to others cannot be acquired without effort. In this lecture, I would like to think together with you about "the power of words and the power of convey them."

Title

Uncertainty of Facts. Can we take off the “Colored Glasses” of looking Through Colored Glasses?

Speaker

Takefumi Toda (Kyoto University Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies )

Introduction of Lecture

"Facts" are often thought as something that exists independently from what we think or believe. The term “looking through colored glasses” is used in a negative sense to describe the distortion of facts based on prejudice and preconceived notions. However, is it possible to see the facts as they really are? In the first place, what are “facts”? In this lecture, I would like to think about the uncertainty of “facts” and how such ideas can be related to the way we live our lives.
